PBL is an instructional model that involves students in cooperative investigation of compelling problems. PBL is driven by a driving question - that can be used in more than one unit or topic- and authentic problem. Projects for students should be planned and designed effectively to enhance students’ learning. Projects should focus on important learning objectives. Also, in working on such projects, students should have the opportunity to take on real-life roles to culminate realistic products that address the driving question and permit frequent feedback from peers and teachers. The PBL environment includes varied means of assessments- by self, peers, teachers and sometimes outside experts- that help students carry out the challengeable tasks, pertain their performance, and enhance their products.
In project-based learning, students work in teams to explore real-world problems and create presentations to share what they have learned. Compared with learning solely from textbooks, this approach has many benefits for students, including: • Deeper knowledge of subject matter; • Increased self-direction and motivation; • Improved research and problem-solving skills.
What I like most about PBL is that it enriches students with the 21st century skills, skills that help them face the challenges that may encounter them in real-life.
